Hi, my name is Dongwang Lee, an amateur astronomer in South Korea, and an undergraduate majoring in Astrophysics and History at Sejong University.

I had been fascinated by stars and the universe since childhood, but I had never once thought about observing them through a telescope. That changed in 2020. As a middle schooler with a bit of pocket money, I decided to buy one — just in time for Mars’ close approach.

Looking back now, with much more knowledge, it was a cheap telescope I’d never recommend to anyone. I didn’t know a single constellation, nor could I tell north from south. Yet, I simply aimed at the stars at random and spent entire nights doing so. Then, near Aldebaran, I found it: the Hyades cluster, a triangular grouping of stars containing Theta² Tauri. I still can’t forget the excitement of that moment.
